The Beginning of My Backyard Poultry Farm in Lagos

My name is Jeeti and I am based in Lagos. I created this blog to pen down my journey of venturing into a small-scale poultry farming (egg production to be specific) and most important my experiences as a starter, through to becoming a pro.

My mission is to own a very large poultry farm on hectares of land but before I can gather enough capital to fund my vision, I decided to start with a backyard poultry farming so I can learn and gather experience.

So basically, I will be documenting what I am doing and how far I have gone in this business venture.

How I Came About Poultry Farming

I got inspired to go into poultry farming after I saw my brother's backyard coop early this year 2019. Although, he was into meat production (raising broilers) back then, I decided to go into egg production for 2 reasons;

1. I prefer egg production because I believe it has a market waiting for it already

2. Unlike chicken meat, egg doesn't have season.

At least to my little understanding back then, I believed marketing and selling chicken meat will be a difficult task so I jumped into conclusion of going into egg production. I think I was wrong anyways :)

And secondly, since chickens are common with festive periods like Easter, Christmas, etc, I thought it'll be seasonal and the profit too will be seasonal.

So I drew my conclusion of going into egg production only.

In my next post, I will be talking about how I got started and what I did and bought to get started in poultry farming.

Note that I decided to blog about my poultry farming journey because I want starters like me to learn from my failures and successes.

I remember searching for information on how to start poultry farming in Nigeria, while I read some useful info about the business, most of those info are just scrap with a lot of people trying to sell one manual and the other.

So I believe if you are just starting egg production business on a small scale like me, you will find this blog very useful as you will learn a lot from what I will be sharing - all free of charge.

Gurus in poultry farming are also welcome to help me along the way, like if you see what I am doing wrong, do point it out in the comment box below.

Thank you.
